Dictadores

Dictadores” es un ensayo del historiador holandés Frank Dikötter (1961), catedrático de Humanidades en la Universidad de Hong Kong y profesor de Historia Moderna de China en la Universidad de Londres. Autor de varias obras sobre la China del siglo XX, Fran D. en este caso se centra en la trayectoria de ocho dictadores de diferentes continentes. Mussolini, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Kim Il-sung, Duvalier, Ceaucescu y Mengistu con una característica común: todos ellos cultivaron el culto a la personalidad como truco para permanecer en el poder contra viento y marea, en algún caso durante mucho tiempo, no a base de convencer sino de forzar al sometimiento en un clima confuso y temible, no solo de la población, sino también de los que gobiernan con el dictador e incluso de los enemigos. De este modo, la mentira y el miedo al que manda se instala en la población, ya que se organiza de un modo programado. Así florecen todo tipo de espías, jefes de diversa índole, hasta llegar a los profesionales de la tortura y purga para los disidentes. En torno al dictador se compra el trabajo de numerosos profesionales relacionados con la cultura, la comunicación o el arte. Todos ellos dedican su tiempo a engrandecer la imagen y la voz de su amo. Hay muchos ejemplos en el libro de cómo estos jefes llevaron hasta el extremo la extensión de su poder hasta límites insospechados y acarrearon en muchas ocasiones víctimas y juicios falsos. Todo un despliegue de narcisismo que les conducía a informar ininterrumpidamente y organizar espectáculos en torno a ellos. Una obra interesante y amena.
